When my GPS looses or has bad contact with satellites or just after first contact often logs obviously wrong trackpoints. It would be helpful if Viking was able to remove those points, for instance based on margins on the speed. Maybe Viking shouldn't delete them straight away, but help me identify possible trackpoints.

When I download the way-points from my GPS I would easily like to see which way-points are new. It would be great when it would be possible to find duplicate way-points (between different layers).

To easily display groups of way-points I have multiple layers. However, some way-points belong in multiple layers. It would be great if the information of those duplicates could be shared between the multiple layers so that when a way-point is updated, all layers containing that way-point get updated.

I would appreciate that possibility.

Thanks for this analysis. Reading code of viking and gpsd, I think the deepest matter is around the call to gps_open. I think we have to replace it by a call to gps_open_r.
I will test this idea tonigh.

Everything else seems to work just fine, and the program looks great; but...
Viking is unable to 'open' the GPS unit which is connected to USB1. Here's the console output for the session:
ron@Shuttlepod1:~$ viking -dV
** (viking:4655): DEBUG: VikExtTool.label: Google
** (viking:4655): DEBUG: VikWebtoolCenter.url...
