The open source virtualization software VirtualBox was lacking an option to run virtual machines as a Win NT/XP/2003/W7 service entity. VBoxVmService does the trick! VBoxVmService requires Microsoft's Visual C++ Runtime 2005 and the Dotnet Framework 2.
It is definitely not a newbee's pick but it delivers the only working solution to this issue so far. skill level: for the sophisticated windows admin
works like a charm for me. thanks a lot! :-)
Changes since version rel20081009 (yesterdays release): THE SOURCECODE WAS PARTIALLY TAINTED! THE RELEASE 20081009 HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN! PLEASE USE 20081010 INSTEAD!!! Changes since version rel20080728 Improved the event-logging to VBoxVmService.log. It will now capture (at least some) of the response messages from VirtualBox's components, as well as runservs output. A PARAMETER NAME WITHIN THE FILE VBoxVmService.ini HAS BEEN CHANGED: PLEASE RENAME THE PARAMETER FROM "PathToVBoxVRDP" TO "PathToVBoxHeadless" IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM AN EARLIER VERSION AND ARE PLANNING TO USE YOUR OLD INI-FILE!
