I've commented out the memset line and rerun X with logverbose 8, I'm attaching the Xorg.log file. The monitor didn't work either, and the text mode seemed screwed.

Please try to comment out the memset in VIAScreenInit in via_driver.c and run the XServer with -logverbose 7, and then please attach the next log.

Dear developers,
I'm running fedora 8 @64bits on a K9MM-V motherboard with a K8M800 host bridge and a Via S3 Unichrome Pro Vga adapter. I cannot get X to start with the unichrome driver. According to the Xorg.log, X recognizes the VT3108 IGP and K8M800 bridge but it finds some unknown cards (1462|7312). I'm attaching a tar.bz2 with the Xorg.log and output of dmesg. Please let me know...

Your graphics driver for this machine (MB: MSI P4M890M-L; CPU Intel Celeron D347 @ 3.06GHz; RAM DDR2 533MHz 512MB (384MB + 128MB used for video)) on Ubuntu 7.10 works insufficiently in 3D mode (most OpenGL applications runs only with low screen resolution 800×600, sometimes with green stripes and/or vertical screen jittering, or screen seems to be desynchronized (horizontal stripes)).
