TextWedge is a text-file splitter with an editor interface, or a text editor with a file splitting interface. It provides a number of splitting criteria: byte count, line count, hits on search terms, and the lines where the values of sort keys change.
Very helpfully. I had to analyze a 250 MB Logfile Norbert
Excellent for splitting, very fast
This is the list of changes provided in TextWedge V1.2 and 1.2.1 01. A list of line numbers, delimited by commas, can now be supplied as splitting criteria. The line numbers can be negative (which means counting starts backwards from end of file). 02. Newly created Column Wizard, for inserting, deleting and editing data columns. Column Wizard has a sub-wizard to reformat dates in the work column - this can also modify each date by adding (or subtracting) a fixed number of days, months or years. V1.2 contained a bug that caused date conversion to fail for a dataset with a column of dates where some dates were missing. Corrected in V1.2.1. In V1.2, the work column operations 'Fill Gaps Up' and 'Fill Gaps Down' can be extremely slow for large datasets. These operations have been speeded up in V1.2.1. 03. String functions (different substring options) for sort keys in Sort Wizard. 04. String lengths as additional sort key criteria in sort wizard. 05. In Sort Wizard, option to insert extra lines at break of sort key can now specify "break of sort key" to occur when change occurs in first X subkeys (doesn't have to be all). 06. Option in Sort Wizard for removing duplicate lines, so that just one instance remains of every sort key. Non-key values are not considered when testing for duplicates. After duplicate removal, data can be restored to its original order (less duplicate values). 07. Character substitution as a specialized search & replace function (also in Column Wizard). 08. Character substitution window has a button to list all characters that DO NOT appear in the text. 09. Search and replace function can operate on a collection of files. 10. Newly created Join Wizard for joining text files together. 11. "Remove Lines" dialog now has 'negate' option; ie. can delete lines that DON'T contain given text. 12. 'Align Text' function (under Action | Replace) to replace surplus spaces in lines by tabs (or other preferred character). Also has options to replace a given string by a carriage return + newline (ie. split lines at a nominated string), and to fill empty lines with a nominated string. 13. Drag & drop files now expands folder names recursively (ie. lists files in dragged folders and in their subfolders and sub-subfolders, etc). Does not list folder names. 14. New "Split Without Loading" function to split a very large file without first reading it all into memory. The only useable splitting criteria are number of lines per chunk, and/or any number of search phrases (excludes regular expression search). Bypasses richedit control, thereby solving problem caused by very long lines wrapping (overriding 'no wrap' restriction in richedit control). 15. If editor contents have been modified without saving changes, a warning is issued when TextWedge is shut down. User can switch this warning off permanently by holding down SHIFT key while clicking response to warning. 16. New menu item File -->Clear Editor to remove data from editor and force TextWedge to forget the file (does not produce the warning described above). 17. New option in standard splitting to include first line of data as header in every chunk file. 18. For Windows Vista users unable to access WinHelp, the file TextWedge.PDF is just a copy of the MS Word file used in the WinHelp project, printed into a PDF file by OpenOffice Writer.

TextWedge is a text-file splitter with an editor interface, or a text editor with a file splitting interface. Version 1.2 adds powerful multi-column sorting, column-specific editing, column-centric operations such as insertion, deletion, replacement and swapping of entire columns, a gui interface to a multi-textfile concatenator, and much more.
