I'll offer a clarification to this bug, as I have experienced it myself.
With the "Group similar task buttons" option checked, and at least one grouped task button:
1) Moving a singular task button (only one app window) across the grouped task button will add that app to the group IF the singular button is placed next to the grouped button. If you keep moving the singular button, the issue...

When the taskbar is set to "group similar taskbar buttons" in the properties dialogue, moving grouped taskbar buttons or the buttons around them causes unexpected behaviour.
Effectively the contents of the group change in each position, so 2 firefox windows (title: "2 Firefox") might become 2 Firefox windows and a notepad window (title: "3 Firefox")

I know that the last update only happened yesterday but many improvements have been made and tested since then. Now it has a much smaller memory footprint and revised icon. New install options allow allow it to start on windows boot. Production has now been marked as stable.
