In regards to the 226.16.10.... addresses: TagCentric uses these as mutlicast addresses. Messages that need to be broadcast out to all agents will use one of these addresses to do that. Agents can this listen to these multicast addresses for certain messages. As far as I know TagCentric is usable on all hosts. For example, I normally set the reader address to 192.168.1.xyz whenever I am using it in a subnet at home or something. One thing to be careful of: the port of the alien reader is currently hardcoded to 23 (because it uses telnet), so if you are using tag centric in linux, you have to start it up as a super user.
