So, I've received the Maplin adapter and it works flawlessly using the Prolific P2303 free driver (also a nice SourceForge project).

And here is a <A href="http://web.archive.org/web/20070317214055/http://www.hugepine.com/IMAGES/pic003.jpg>picture</A> of the infamous adapter, just in case you'd intend to buy it. I had it with another packaging titled "High quality computer accessories". Duh.

Well, after more search, I have discovered that my USB to serial has probably a CH-340 or CH-341 chip from WinChipHead (http://www.winchiphead.com/). However the chipmaker provides no MacOS X driver. I'll wait for the Maplin adapter to arrive before any further attempt.

Hello,
I have just bought an Intuos 2 and discovered it has a PC serial port instead of an USB port (didn't even know there were some non-USB versions).
I am trying to use it under my MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.4.11 without success.
I have an unbranded serial-to-USB adapter but I cannot find any suitable driver as the vendor appears with the following vendor code in System Profiler...
