  • snoompy snoompy1.0 file released: snoompy.tar.gz

README file for 'Snoompy' v.1.001 1. WHAT IS 'Snoompy'? --------------------------------------------- 'Snoompy' is a command line, SNMP manager software. It is designed for extremely rapid script configuration and execution, the used scripts permit to define one or more SNMP packets with type, packet options and bindings and the program will build a consequent SNMP packet and send it over the network to the specified address. It is written in Python language. See www.python.org. 'Snoompy' has been developed and is intended for rapid SNMP scripting. SNMP device configuration can be rapidly achieved by setting up a script with all necessary SNMP sets. In the same way, configuration downloads can be realized on any device. 2. HISTORY BEHIND SNOOMPY. -------------------------------------------------------- Snoompy was originally developed at a Siemens research center. Devices under development had to be very often reset due to software or hardware failures. The program's intended purpose was to allow rapid device reconfiguration based on a series of script. Consequently, new, parametric scripts were made to allow for rapid MIB population to test the different embedded software characteristics. 3. REQUIREMENTS --------------- You will basically only need a Python installation. The program relies also on PySNMPv2 libraries, which are however already included in the package, as I had to modify them slightly (thanks, GPL). Python is available from http://www.python.org/. Get it, install it, and you are ready to try. Python also comes with all GNU/Linux distributions that I am aware of, so if you are a GNU/Linux user you should have that in your box already. Please note that I have developed and tested the program with Python version 2.4. I have no idea as it's functioning on previous or later versions of Python. 4. LICENSING & PRICING ---------------------- 'Snoompy' is distributed under the GNU Public License, which is included in this archive (see file COPYING). The above means that 'Snoompy' is pretty much free. You have to pay nothing for it. 5. CREDITS ---------- Thanks to Siemens for paying me and for allowing the public GPL release of this software originally intended only for internal use. For the rest, as I haven't had any bug reports or lists yet, thanks to just to me! (just kidding, anyhow you can find me if necessary at <migratore@libero.it>)
