Description

Simple Log File Monitor is a bash script that can be used to monitor log files or other text files and execute commands on the output of the logfile.

The motivation for this script originally was to be able to get a subset of a log file emailed to an email address easily while still being portable. Built to use as little as possible, a system with bash, wc, grep, tail, and date should be able to use this script, though a command-line email client would be required to send emails out.

The one thing that I would like to see is some sort of way to keep track of a marked log file location when slfm.sh is not able to write to a log file. I am trying to monitor a file that gets a lot of data dumped to it, and slfm.sh is not able to write the mark to it. Works great on a static log file. Oh yeah, and change the subject of the email when there is nothing to report, or an option to not send an email. That would be good too. Prevent some panics.
