the library cannot do that. did you use a feature specific to sidplay 4.0 on mac? --> http://www.sidmusic.org.

AIUI there are several rom files included in libsidplay v2, which make it illegal to redistribute the library. They are not needed for basic play-back of sid music. Why not make these files optional and only load them from hard-disk if available?.

The Libs definition in pkg-config files are wrong so it is not possible to link against sidplay2 when not using libtool.
They should be:
Libs: -L${libdir} -lsidplay2
for libsidplay2 and:
Libs: -L${libdir} -lsidutils
for libsidutils.
