shtumble is a shell-based wireless network stumbler and configuration tool. it lets you monitor visible networks, and configure encryption and IP addressing. it can also be used in a command-line mode to auto-connect on boot, or after suspend.

since shtumble only consists of one file, and since i don't change it all that often, i'm not going to do any more tarball releases. just get the latest version from here: http://shtumble.cvs.sourceforge.net/shtumble/shtumble/
i had access to an XO (One Laptop Per Child) laptop for a couple of weeks, and got shtumble working. it still doesn't do WPA, and i should really make it change its own background to black, to be more readable when run in the Terminal activity, but it does seem to work better than previous versions, and can handle open and WEP-protected networks just fine. i didn't put up a new file for download -- please browse into the CVS tree and get the 2/1/2008 version from there.
bug fix (re: ad-hoc nets)
It turns out that with previous releases, if there were no "normal" networks in sight, then you couldn't see your hidden or ad-hoc networks either. Fixed in this release.
revision 1.11 date: 2007/10/04 12:15:16; author: pgf; state: Exp; lines: +1 -1 bumped versiondate ---------------------------- revision 1.10 date: 2007/09/13 20:57:13; author: pgf; state: Exp; lines: +12 -7 some shells didn't like the previous GATEWAY test. also, deal with ad-hoc and hidden nets even when (especially when!) there no broadcasting nets in sight. ---------------------------- revision 1.9 date: 2007/08/19 02:24:56; author: pgf; state: Exp; lines: +43 -7 fixed a typo which prevented editing netconfigs. fixed up ad-hoc configurations. networks configured as ad-hoc will now always appear in the network list.
the previous release was kind of broken if you used the 'a' command to limit display to accessible nets only. r20070709 fixes this, and adds preliminary support for alternate (non-dhclient) dhcp support.
