SourceForge.net Service Operations Group (SOG) maintains this umbrella project for the public release of Open Source software we produce; mainly patches and add-ons related to OSS used to drive SourceForge.net. On 2006-03-06 the SF.net SOG team sent a patch upstream to the ViewVC author/maintainer to better handle 'enscript' child processes, which were previously becoming zombie processes when running ViewVC as a FastCGI application. ViewVC can be found here: http://www.viewvc.org/ The patch can be found here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sfnet-operations/viewvc-head-20060306-pipe-unzombie.diff?download Release notes can be found here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sfnet-operations/viewvc-head-20060306-pipe-unzombie.release_notes?download
In the course of testing the lighttpd web server software for SourceForge.net, we encountered a defect in the handling of fastcgi backend disable/re-enable events, submitted as ticket #535. This defect has had some impact on the reliability of part of our service offering, so upon detection we deployed a workaround: some babysitting code to watch the internal statistics of the lighttpd server (a feature of lighttpd's mod_status) for disabled=1 instances, and restart lighttpd. The lighttpd author has developed a permanent fix for this issue, which we have now tested successfully. In testing this code enhancement, we've also been able to collect additional statistics about the current state of site scalability (the number of web heads needed to break-even with traffic, and the number of heads needed to handle traffic spikes during peak hours), useful information for future planning. Full details on the issue, and link to the fix may be seen at: http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/ticket/535 -- the fix is expected for inclusion in lighttpd 1.4.11. Thus far, lighttpd has proven itself an excellent piece of software, with very strong performance and design which supports site scalability. http://www.lighttpd.net/ Jacob Moorman Quality of Service Manager, SourceForge.net

On 2006-03-03 the SF.net SOG team released a patch to SVN::Notify that adds a maximum diff length option to the SVN::Notify libary. This allows for truncation of long diffs that otherwise would be output in their entirety from svnnotify, or anything that might use the SVN::Notify perl library. SVN::Notify can be found here: http://search.cpan.org/dist/SVN-Notify/ The SVN::Notify max diff length patch can be found here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sfnet-operations/SVN-Notify-max_diff_length-2.53.patch?download Release notes and instructions can be found here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sfnet-operations/SVN-Notify-max_diff_length-2.53.release_notes?download
