7-Zip 9.05 alpha

  1. 2009-08-09 11:13:43 UTC
    7-Zip 9.05 alpha was released.

    7-Zip for 32-bit Windows:
    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z905.exe

    7-Zip for 64-bit Windows x64:
    http://dl.7-zip.org/7z905-x64.msi

    What's new after 7-zip 9.04 beta:
    - 7-Zip now can unpack MSLZ archives.
    - Partial parsing for EXE resources, SWF and FLV.
    - Some bugs were fixed.
    - Some changes in interface.

Don't use this version for important data. Call "Test" command after each compressing operation.

Thanks for it, Igor! But I'm curious what meant by "Some changes in interface" ?
Comparing extracted resources is a little bit annoying and some changes can not be visible from the first glance but being paranoic I wish to know what's have been changed.
    Anyway, thanks!

    Surely, not only this.

    Hello everyone,

using 7-zip 9.05 alpha with german-lang I found the "File"-dialog (german => Datei") in 7zFm.exe is completly in english, besides the title in file-menu (which is correctly "Datei"). (All other dialogs are german, besides the "Options" -> "Settings" -> "Single click to open an item" (still english)
Btw: @ Skymmer: About-window seems to have changed :-)

    Best regards!

There were some changes in GUI for better compatibility with Windows CE/ Windows Mobile.
    - One toolbar istead of two bands.
    - No plugins in Options
    - Single-click option in Options/Settings.
    - Error messages in Progress window.
    - It's possible to change the size of some dialog boxes.

BTW, does anybody need "Single click" option?
It's for touchscreen Windows Mobile mostly. So if it's useless in Desktop version, I can hide that option.

    About internals:
MSLZ - it's format in files like *.sy_, *.dl_, *.ex_ (SZDD signature).
It's posible to extract WAV from FLV.
And it's possible to recompress SWF.

    Hello everyone,

difficult to say... In normal explorer I made the experience, that if I want only some files and some folders it takes longer to do that job, because you have to point onto a file / folder and wait (keeping Ctrl-key pressed) until it's marked. With double-click it's faster (at least for me) and more safe (if I accidentially clicked on the 25th folder -> it opened and I had to start again from scratch...)
It doesn't hurt if you leave it as is. Why worrying about? If someone thinks he needs it... fine :-)

    Best regards!

    Hi Igor

Thank you for the new version.

The content of the File menu in the Danish version also have English menu items. The en.ttt file included in the 7z905.exe is old. (7-Zip 4.59). I hope you will find the time to update it, so the next version of 7Zip could be fully localized.

    Hello everyone,

    o_O
    Wow, that's *fast* bug-fixing :-)

I would suggest that you should sync the single click option with explorers single click option on the desktop. Most desktop users wouldn't need the option but users with touch screens in the future might want the option.

You could also provide an override option for the sync for those picky controlling users.

    Hello Igor,

    I test arhive with 7z v9.05a - program ,,7z905.exe'' and show 101%.

And rear window (big) does not close, it show.

    Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit RTM v6.1.7600.16385.

I would suggest that you should add options-system-associate 7z.... ,,Deselect all"

Many romanian people i like 7z. Best Regards!

    Hi Igor,
Is it possible for the file assocation, the setting applies for current user only(i.e. not for the global)?
    reasons as follows:
    1) Limited user (in XP/Vista/7) cannot set the assocation
    2) User without evaluated privilege in Vista/7 cannot set the assocation
    3) Some users in the same pc may want to use other program

    Thanks

Now toolbar issue is fixed. Thank You Igor!
Please don't remove "Single-click to open file", as I found it useful.
As I can see some new messages in GUI were added, but they are still can't be found in language file. Could You add support for new messages in language files, so they can be translated.

    >Limited user (in XP/Vista/7) cannot set the assocation
Seems to be an OS issue/limitation. Windows security become better and better, and You can see a results - broken compatibility with applications using not latest API.
For Vista/7 You should use "Run As Administrator..." to set file associations.

Could be possible to have the compiled version of 7za.dll and 7zxa.dll 9.05 both x86 and x64 bit for windows? I can't find them in any package and are useful to make other programs recognize the new LZMA2 format (WinRar, Servant Salamander, WinMount..)

    Thanks!
  19. 2009-08-10 12:28:06 UTC
    Just copy 7z.dll from 7-Zip to 7zxa.dll in WinRAR/Formats.
    It must work.
  20. 2009-08-10 12:44:13 UTC
It was a matter of file size..
  21. 2009-08-10 12:49:51 UTC
It's possible to use 7zxa.dll from 9.04 beta.
  22. 2009-08-10 16:50:31 UTC
    I can't open Winzip SFX with 9.05.
  23. 2009-08-10 17:07:34 UTC
    @noangel777
as i mentioned in the message, the current user setting is the area needed not to evaluate the privilege. To perform write to CU area, reg add is a standard command allows to do so.

Adding the registry for CU in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.xxx\OpenWithList]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.xxx\OpenWithProgids]
And restart/notify the explorer would apply the change

    Yes, there is some problem.
They use two formats: ZIP with offset and PE-EXE. And 7-zip thinks that it's PE_EXE.
The only solution now is command line:
    7z x a.exe -tzip
  25. 2009-08-11 10:16:28 UTC
One day will be supported by the option: "Compress and Email ..." ?
