  1. 2008-07-30 09:42:04 UTC
    7-Zip 4.59 alpha 6 was released.

    7-Zip for 32-bit Windows:
    http://www.7-zip.org/alpha/7z459a6.exe

    7-Zip for 64-bit Windows x64:
    http://www.7-zip.org/alpha/7z459a6-x64.msi

    What's new after 7-Zip 4.59 alpha 5:
    - Some changes in 7-Zip File Manager.
    - Some bugs were fixed.

Don't use this alpha version for important data. Call "Test" command after each compressing operation.

    1) New version compresses slightly better to 7z/LZMA in fast mode.

    2) 7-Zip can open EXE/DLL, ELF and Mach-O files, so it's possible to view some attributes of these files.

    3) When you extract/test split archives like a.7z.001, 7-Zip checks that both levels (.001 and .7z) are OK.

    4) When the are no selected files, 7-Zip File Manager extracts all files of folder. And now you need less clicks to extract all files after archive opening.

    5) 7-Zip File Manager shows some additional information about files in "Copy" and "Combine files" dialog boxes.

Igor: There's one feature the 7-Zip File Manager lacks that I desperately wish it had(unless I'm blind). When I extract a file with a path that doesn't exist in Winrar or Winzip, it will create the destination folder for me. In 7ZFM, I have to find the root folder, create the new folder, name it, then I can finally extract into the folder I want it in.

Do you plan on adding a directory create, if path is not found feature like other front-ends have?

    Thanks!

Nevermind, I'm a jackass. I don't know when you added it, I guess it's been a long long time since I've tried this(or read the text that says the directory will be created).

I apologize and thank you again for the excellent program. :)

I have to say that 7-zip is the most awesome program for archiving, ever. Thank you for continuing to make it even better!

Link seems to be broken, do you need special access or something?
Sorry if it is a stupid question.

There were problems with hosting. So 7-zip.org now is in sf.net hosting that doesn't allow .exe files in web site. I don't want to include alpha versions to file releases (download) section. But I hope next Beta will be released soon.
