7-Zip 4.59 alpha 2

  1. 2008-06-08 07:02:55 UTC
    7-Zip 4.59 alpha 2 was released.

    7-Zip for 32-bit Windows:
    http://www.7-zip.org/alpha/7z459a2.exe

    7-Zip for 64-bit Windows x64:
    http://www.7-zip.org/alpha/7z459a2-x64.msi

    What's new after 7-Zip 4.59 alpha 1:
    - 7-Zip now can unpack DMG/HFS archives.
  2. 2008-06-08 07:22:35 UTC
Some additional notes. 7-Zip now supports only some simple HFS files inside DMG files. I have no real HFS images of real disks to improve HFS support. If you have some HFS+/HFSX image that can not be open by 7-Zip, upload it to some place and give me the link to that file (compressed to .zip or .7z format). Don't send files larger than 10 MB. And check that image doesn't contain private data, even in deleted files.

Any chance for "UDF" in this new version ? Please !

I don't want to annoy you, but are there any plans to add additional options and customization abilities for SFX in the next time?
  5. 2008-06-08 19:36:58 UTC
Cool new feature(s) in these beta/alpha releases :D. I really could care less about improved sfx ability atm maybe archive parity but not that important. But I would like to know why jump from alpha 4.58 to beta 4.58 to alpha 4.59? (or am I misinformed)

What are you going to do about the ratio though?

In all seriousness... I have created my own algorithm, it's called KZJS3. I have had the ratio for quite awhile, although today, I just got the speed to ZOOM. Check this pic out.

Found some issue in 7-zip 4.59 alpha 2 UI. Please fix.

    Way to reproduce:
Install 7-zip 4.59 alpha 2 32-bit version. OS: Windows 2000 Pro SP4. Run Windows Explorer and right click any folder with ~ten thousands of files. Select 7-zip->Compress from context menu. Press OK, 7-zip starts scanning files for compression. Press Cancel, then Yes. If file scanning is not complete, 7-zip reports about "Scanning error", sometimes about "Unknown error"(appeared only once, difficult to reproduce).

    Expected operation:
If user cancelling compression, error message should not appear.

    Best Regards,

    I'll fix it. Thanks!

Can you PLEASE add a "Show extracted files when complete" option !
This is a very necessary and useful option present even in windows but not in 7-Zip !
