I've installed Scibuntu( 2.1-alfa) on Ubuntu 8.10 but all icons and tools desappeared. Now I have only the background screen. How do I recover the my regular gnome panel? (p.s. gnome-panel command gives the message 'Cannot open display'.)

Do all of the programs listed on the first ubuntu wiki come included with scibuntu?
As I am a social scientist (psychologist in training, actually) I'm wondering, can I have the option of just installing the statistics and reference managing programs from the install .iso?.

Perhaps the Vector NTI alternative GENtle ( http://gentle.magnusmanske.de/ ) could be packed for SciBuntu? The proprietary Vector NTI has been an important tool for basically every molecular biologist due to its free academic licence. Recently, Invitrogen has however changed its licencing terms for the next version and lots of scientists are quite angry...
I feel that GENtle is quite mature...

Actyually porting it is not the problem, it already is compatible though the instalation can be a little difficult for those who are not exactly linux savy.

Sentence: "It is a script that adds scientific programs and other convinient tools to the plain desktop Ubuntu."
Change: "convinient" to "convenient"
I'll look for more typos and rough spots in the English grammar or style, if that will help you out. --
Cheers!
Chuck.
