Hi,
I have the same problem. I tried WEP, WPA, WPA2 and no encryption, always the same problem.
On windows and OS X i don't have any problems.

I have the same problem. I tried changing encription to WEP, WPA, WPA2 and turning encryption off. Always the same problem. I can't get more than 120KB/s. On windows and OS X problem don't exist (transfer about 1.2MB/s, no incrased latency).

Hi Folks,
Please see my reply in the other post. I had the same issues like you do but managed to resolve it. Make sure you have NO other r8180 or r8185 .ko files in your /lib/modules/.... path.
can you post your dmesg?

I thought of sharing my experience.
Yesterday. I've managed to install PCI wifi card with rtl8185 chipset. (Encore card).
It is working very well on my Ubuntu 9.04 + kernel 2.6.28.
I used the following:

When downloading any large file over a sustained period at any rate greater than ~40KB/sec, latency on the link (tested to the access point) skyrockets - shooting from 1-2 ms up to 300-1000ms, with short spikes up to 4000ms. the machine is not cpu bound during this period. as soon as the large transfer completes, latency drops back to normal. other machines on the same wireless network do not...

Realtek released a new driver for rtl8185 June 25 2009 for linux. Here's a link to it...

Which driver are you trying to use? The driver provided on this project is for 8187L (at least I haven't gotten it to work with my 8187B yet, anyway). Try the driver you can find here: http://rtl8187b.sourceforge.net/
