I use to use naim on the server itself all the time with no problems, but I have not tried it within the last month or so and now that I have it appears to be unable to connect - just gets stuck on sending password and tcpdump swears no packets are moving around anywhere. I went back to disabling all firewall rules on the system and naim appears to still be unable to connect, centericq doesn't either. I have no X system on the server to test out gaim with but I am pretty sure naim still works with AIM correctly so I don't think its a protocol problem.
What has me baffled is how I can't connect even if I am on the machine itself directly connected to the internet without any firewall rules. The routing table looks fine, the local dns server works fine, I can even telnet to the login.oscar.aol.com 5190 at which point I do see data in tcpdump... why telnet works and naim doesn't is a complete mystery, especially with no packets appearing anywhere.
I have only been toying around with IPv6 and I am using freenet through a tunnel on that machine, could the sit0 / sit1 interface be attempting to hijack all my ipv4 communications from that box for some reason? I am going to attempt to unload all the ipv6 stuff later today and see what happens, I believe the problem must not exist in the reaim code now since it appears the machine itself isn't capable of doing what reaim is attempting to do. Although if it is IPv6 do you think there is a way to force reaim to only use a specific interface? I have already attempted manually specifing my external IP to it just to see but the same results happen.
Unfourtunaly I do not have logs of reaim when it was working since that was such a long time ago, I will let you know if unloading all the ipv6 modules does anything though.
