A relative clock starts countering from zero when you open it: it's relative from the moment you open it. Thus it's similar to a timer, you can thus pause, but the difference is that you can add interruptions form before or afterwards. For example you know you're leaving from 12:00PM till 13:00PM then after you've entered that the clock won't count that part. Thus it can be used as a working clock, counting only the working hours, for showing whether or not you're on track or not and simply as an advanced timer.
