    It would indicate the Accept-Encoding header in the request is missing, corrupt, or specifies an unsupported encoding. That is definitely the ultimate reason for this message.

    But that would indeed be strange if you're using the same browser. Can you use any means to look at the request and see what values are being sent and received?

    Any chance of proxies or other firewalls modifying the request in the middle in production only?
