    To me it doesn't sounds like heavy bandwidth usage...

    If you have access to your webservers logfiles you will find the explanation there.
    My guess is that it is caused by various webcrawlers indexing your site.
    You are easy to find in Google so at least their crawler is one of the 'visitors'.
