PaulRPG: A free role playing game engine, to enable people to create free "Final Fantasy" style games. The data file formats are reasonably cross-platform supportable, they would just need an interpreter for the different platforms.

As you may (or may not) know, I am a university student. I am currently in the middle of my main exam week, so planned updates aren't happening. Hopefully, next week my exams will be finished, so I plan to update ALL my sourceforge projects sometime next week. Also, after next week I will be on summer holiday. This means that I will be away from university with it's nice broadband connection, and stuck with a 56K modem. This means that updates until september will probably be few and far between, released as patches instead of full downloads. Sorry. Oops, gotta go. The lab I'm in is about to have an exam in it. Paul Milliken.
Okay, I should be getting the music sometime this weekend. I'd been planning for this release to be a patch of the game, but there's so much changed that I may as well just upload the lot. I've removed the intro video - it was a bit big considering what it did - it's been replaced with a text scroller using the credit scrolling engine. The credit scroller has been updated. I've removed two of the bitmapped logos, and replaced them with a simple text-only effect for now. Hopefully the update will be up by wednesday.
I'm making progress in getting music to use in the game. I've made a number of changes to the game engine and the game data. Hopefully an updated version will be available for download in the next week.
Sorry about this, but for the last two weeks (and the next two) I'm away from my development machine, so I can't work on PaulRPG. I probably won't be updating for about three weeks (I need to actually DO something before I update). While I've been away, I've been knocking a few ideas around and working on secondary projects. I've got a basic file grouping system which I could include in the project. It acts similar to TAR archives (multiple files in one, no compression). I'm also working on a separate compression algorithm, with limited success.
I'm looking for people who are good at creating music and graphics. If you can help with some royalty free music or graphics (NOT RIPPED FROM OTHER GAMES) that are free of copyrights, preferably that you created yourself, please contact me. Anything used will have credit given.
The new stone hunter release (16.03.2002) uses the latest version of the game engine, version 0.08.1, and includes the source code to both that version of the engine and the crappy sound system. Don't expect to understand the code though, some of it confuses even me. It is now running in full screen directX again, with the videos working properly. During development I have found a bug which only manifests itself when running in debug mode. In debug mode the game does not run full screen, and for some reason, the credits scroller crashes in this mode. The download version should be fine though. I'm now considering improving the main game engine by adding features such as collision detection to the map, so I can start designing the proper areas of the game. I've got plans for some of the cutscenes, but currently can't impliment them properly.
