Dear friends in the Dhamma, Some of you may have already noticed that the VRI institute has come out with a new version of its famous CST3 program (which served as a model for our own development of the PTR). The new CST4 developed by Frank Snow is - like the PTR - a desktop application written in C# but unfortunately no open source program (yet)! If you too think that it would make more sense for the VRI to release their free software to the open public and thus synergize development and enhance feature richness in having one common pali reader and analysis tool, please consider sending them an email! The more people voice their appreciation for such a step, the more likely it will become. Currently the CST4 beta is very robust and has a superior data and search capability than the PTR, however it lacks convenient features like PTR's Mouseover-translation, bookmarks, quick navigation etc. The PTR developers will provide all code for free to Frank Snow and other CST4 developers. However, it is our sincere wish, that the CST which is such an important and unique pali studying tool will could eventually become open source too. Thanks for your attention! with metta, Lennart
The new version released at January 28 has been documented. See the updated documentation at http://palireader.sourceforge.net/ppc.html Fixed bugs: 1. when user taps on a bookmark name and renames it, the new name was not remembered. 2. OK button in the right-top corner of the window was visible in the "select book" dialog. Tapping it caused the application to freeze. 3. CSCD formatting codes appear in the names of some texts in the "select book" dialog (Jataka atthakatha etc). New features: 1. Main menu has been redesigned. A toolbar has been added to hold buttons for frequently-used commands. 2. It is now possible to search text in the currently open document. 3. The dictionary search facility now displays a message when there are no results. 4. After a new item is selected in the "book contents" dropdown, the focus is switched to HTML window, so you can scroll it immediately. 5. When you use the "open book" dialog to open a paragraph in the currently open book, it is just scrolled to this paragraph. The document is no longer reloaded in this case. 6. It is now possible to search for a sutta (vagga, section, paragraph etc) name in the "open book" window. 7. It is now possible to type in the Pali-specific characters.

It is possible to enter Pali special characters. - Click OK. - All the found matches are marked with red background. You can click First-Prev-Next-Last toolbar buttons to navigate between search results. 3. The dictionary search facility now displays a message when there are no results. 4. It is now possible to search for a sutta (vagga, section, paragraph etc) name in the "open book" window: - Tap-and-hold on the container node you want to search within (this may be a Pitaka or any child node below it). The context menu appears. - Click Find. - Enter the name of the sutta (vagga etc) and click OK. - The first found document will be displayed. Note 1: There is no "Find next" option. It will find the first match only. Any part of the sutta name will match. Note 2: The search may take some time to complete if you search within a container that holds many child nodes (e.g. Sutta Pitaka).
