As of 2008-02-24 00:00:00 GMT, this project is no longer under active development.
OrgDirectory is a web-based tool for recording employee/member contact details through a web interface. It features multi-user logins, an optional public interface, skinning, an admin panel and eventually import/export and LDAP/AD sync functionality.

I have ended active development on this project for the moment, it was a good experiment and helped me to learn how to build a full PHP/MySQL system, which could be installed and set-up by end users, with public and admin access. Whilst it is a fully functioning system, OrgDirectory is currently lacking in useful features which separate it from it's competitors. Saying that, it may prove useful to some and anyone should feel free to use it if they wish. Likewise if anyone would like to continue development, please contact me. Jonathan
Today marks the release of the Alpha build of OrgDirectory, whilst still very unstable and missing loads of features, and after only 10 days of development, I am sticking to the "Release Early, Release Often" mantra. This package should play nicely with pretty much any PHP/MySQL web server, and there should be no major problems to stop anyone trying it out. Please play around to your heart's content and file any bugs or support requests. Please check the readme.txt file included for the installation instructions, changelog, known issues and further related information. I have also finished a basic design for the project's homepage, this incorporates a simple menu, with download links, an 'About' page featuring screen shots, and links to the SourceForge site for forums and bug reporting etc. I'm really happy to get an Alpha release out after such a short amount of time, and I hope the future beta release can finish off adding all the major features and iron out most of the bugs. Jonathan
Very close to an alpha release, my eyes are bleeding from all the monitor time, and I'm desperately wanting to get a package out in the wild now for people to try, its really exciting at this stage of the development as the major features are plugging into the database and getting up and running! Most of the essential features are now in, the only essential bits missing now are search/pagination and user password administration. I now have a fully featured installation procedure, meaning no poking around in any configuration files for end-users! There is also an administration panel, which at the moment allows for re-jigging of the configuration values which were set at install-time. Once the Alpha is available I will be spending a lot of time on Documentation and building a good homepage for the package, probably utilising a simple CMS, with all development time going into building a beta. Jonathan
I have added some more code to the project, new stuff includes: graphics/logos and switchable themes, with the aim that 3'rd party themes will be easy to build, a few database changes, and various bits of new functionality. It's starting to take shape now and I'm hoping that once the major features are in, like the installation script, searching and user administration, I can package an alpha release within the next few weeks. Latest code is always available through subversion. Jonathan
I have uploaded a very early prototype build into Subversion for anyone who wants to have a look at a very early idea of how the finished system could work. It features some basic features like a database install script, insert/delete functionality, and a public viewing interface. The final product will look almost nothing like this, and I imagine very little of the code uploaded today will be in the final product, but it's a fairly good representation of where I want this project to go. If anyone would like to work on the project with me then please contact me! thanks, Jonathan
