OpenShiiva is for the "FINAL" step in creating a file. It is not supposed to be used to make files for further editing.
You either need to convert your material to DV or another form that is suitable for video editing.

There are only two instances I have had crashes from. One is when I move the original .VOB file (or delete it) while the OpenShiiva window is still open (this happens usually after I have already had it convert something, and am attempting to convert something else). I'm having the same problem with a DVD I created on a PC in a classroom situation. I have a Mac & am trying to do some fix up work on it. OpenShiiva disappears as you say when I open the VOB files.
