  • I've been using Apache OpenOffice for quite a few years now and find it to be very impressive in terms of its intuitive GUI (very similar to MS Office) and the scope of features available. I especially like the ability to save text documents etc in formats compatible with MS. Very handy for sharing via Dropbox, etc. Oh, and for free! What's not to like?

So far everything has always been perfect, I have nothing to say. - yet I have been a loyal customer/user for nearly 22 years.

  • I've written large (10,000 lines+) applications in OpenOffice BASE in the past 11 years using HSQL split databases. I've also written graphic applications for drawing curves on CDC templates all for pediatric medical clinics. I can't give enough kudos to the OpenOffice team for an office system that is second to NONE!

  • My school couldn't give us all MS office, so this software carried me through quarantine.

  • I move from MicrosofOffice to Apache OpenOffice since lots of my friends suggested it. The software is great, the features are confuse at first but after 1 hours, i can basiclly understand most of them, they're awsome. The design, of cause, it feel is a bit "old style," i guess. I suggest some simple, black-white (or maybe 3 color combination) , clean icons theme for some users like me, they won't cause too much distractive form their color and shapes designs. The simple designs won't let them 'pop up' too much and take all the attention and concentration from the writter.

Thank you for your feedback! We are already thinking about adding a simplified icon set (esp. for Dark Mode), but since this project is completely driven by volunteers it needs someone to do it and that may take some time... ;-)
  • Sometimes a bit buggy, but I don't see why you would pay for Microsoft Office. I'm glad this software exists.

  • Older computer died and lost everything. Was using a different "processor" so had to find another one. I remembered the Apache name so downloaded to use and as an old administrator (Navy), felt right at home. A Big thanks for something I can use.
  • Apache OpenOffice is a generous software. Things you can do on other documents platform can be done as well on this software. I have not contacted their support so I cant place rate based on support under customer service. In addition to that, there are some features on this software that will guide users.
  • Difficult learning curve when transferring from Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) to OpenOffice, but persistence pays off. It has taken a few months for this 80 year-old to make the conversion. Now feeling comfortable.

  • AOO 4.1.9 was released on February 7, 2021 and 4.1.10-RC1 is on the way. Apache OpenOffice is still actively developed – cf. the mailing list for developers: www.mail-archive.com/dev@openoffice.apache.org/ – they just opened a repository for 4.2.0-dev3. As long as LibreOffice won't fix its font kerning in page view on Linux and macOS, I will stick to Apache OpenOffice. On Linux, I particularly like that AOO doesn't use Qt or Gtk but its own toolkit – this makes AOO less quirky than LO.
