I had lots of trouble building this on Ubuntu but I wrote some hackish things to make it build. Haven't tested if it works, but for those interested and are having trouble. This may help.
Warning, the tools built are not tested. Hopefully it works.

On Debian Etch, using gcc-4.1 (same results with gcc-3.4):

The "neveredit" script gives me an error asking for a
"main class". The makefile simply doesn't work. I'm
using the linux package on ubuntu 6.06.
This is the error:
