I don't think the DHCP server gives proxy server addresses. I think it just gives IP address, subnet mask, gateway address, lease suration and DNS addresses.
Our corporate intranet doesn't allow any user's computer to interact directly with a box outside the firewall. Everything has to go through a proxy server. MS Internet Explorer autoconfigures itself to this proxy server, but other apps have to be configured by hand.
The F@H GUI client offers to get a proxy configuration from IE, but this feature doesn't work for my WinXP box. I have to tell F@H to use "proxy4.location.company.com Port 911" so that it can get work units from Stanford.
I'd like to load Overfoldix when I leave for the day so that my 2GHz P4 machine can fold with less OS overhead (especially on the weekends) and so that my workstation doesn't remain logged-in 24x7.
I was thinking that I could possibly put a router between my workstation and the corporate net and have the router do some port forwarding magic, but I'm not certain the packets would return along the right route. I'll have to dig into FREESCO a little deeper, I guess.
