Description

NoiseGen is a simple command-line tool for artists, designers, and engineers to generate high-quality 1D-3D noise textures with any power spectrum and optionally with directional dependence. It uses Boost for high-quality random number generation, FFTW for tuning the power spectrum, and libpng for 8-bit and 16-bit 2D output. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colors_of_noise for an explanation of the power spectrum.

Features

  • Generate 8-bit and 16-bit grey PNG images of noise with any spatial power spectrum
  • Generate 3D bricks-of-bytes and 3D bricks-of-shorts of correlated or uncorrelated noise with any power spectrum
  • Generate easy-to-plot 1D noise series
  • Add "hot spots" in the frequency spectrum to generate directional bias
