The fixed I/O class hierarchy was replaced by a a group of flexible transformation classes which can be combined in almost arbitrary order. The Dispatcher now uses daemon threads so that applications can have a clean shut down. The timeout handler in the Dispatcher uses weak references for better memory management. The HandlerAdapter now provides access to the channel.
