Well I've been tinkering for months with pretty much no release of the package I've been working on. On the face of it there doesn't appear to be that much different, on install things (should) work just as they did in the alpha. It's been quite complicated but the RSS feed will now validate (read notes for more info). As opposed to creating an upgrade script for this release, I added a few lines here and there to ensure that the new package is backwards compatible instead. The obvious changes are: * RSS Date now validates * SSI Latest News text feature added And the less obvious is that the gubbins inside the application have changed and in places are much more efficient. Any problems please let me know. I don't intend actively working on this project indefinately and will only continue to do bug fixes as and when the deployments require them. I'll update the packages when this happens.

Beta is on the way which will include an automated upgrade script which will convert the existing data files into the new format. Some of the features I discussed previously won't be included in this release.
There has been no real update in the last few months since the RSS feature was added and I am pleased to say that my enthusiasm for this project has begun to pick up again to the point where I hope that the first pre-release beta will be released in the very near future. I've sorted out the RSS validation issue but due to the knock-on effect this has on data which needs upgrading from previous versions, I won'release it until part of the next package (when the effort to upgrade is worthwhile). By then it will be accompanied by other features including an auto-archive system which will fully replace and use the backbone implemented for the currently unused 'weed' function. There are also hopes for a simple management system for the package which will make adminstration much simpler with a web-interface to change system settings and moderator access. More news soon...
Alpha2_2 has now been released which includes an RSS feed feature. Existing users can just overwrite their 'articleindex.pl' to upgrade to the latest version. There are known RSS validation bugs but it is the first working RSS release of the system.
It has been a long way coming but the second alpha installment is now upon us. All of the bugs picked up in the earlier versions have now been fixed and the feature list is increasing to expand the project. This version has been tested and is stable in most webserver environments - as published in previous news we have deployed the code in a commercial environment and it is holding up well. There are issues with the changelog and release notes on Sourceforge so until I've managed to upload them here's a brief rundown of the biggies: - Settings moved out of the scripts and into a config file - Backward compatibility sorted - Many bugfixes - Blog / Summmary Options - Sort records - ForceBlog/Summary options to define how the user will view the pages. If not forced, user can customise their view. - Custom moderator code - Customisable Blog Separators
