Has anyone been able to use any version of Network Miner in a Windows XP SP2 environment running in VMWorkstation?

Not sure what you are trying to do.

If you wanna run the NetworkMiner GUI in the virtual machine to analyze a pcap file, then all you need to do is to ensure that you have installed the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 on the virtual machine. More info about running NetworkMiner in WMware and the .NET framework can be found in this thread.

If you wanna sniff traffic (i.e. dump network traffic to a pcap file) then I actually suggest that you run tcpdump or dumpcap. Another option is to use WMware's own vmnet-sniffer (more info available about network monitoring in VMware is available on TaoSecurity)

I use it with VMWare Workstation. I run Network Miner on the Host OS and point it at the NAT address assigned to the VMWare Guest OS (on my setup it's "VMnet8")

You can also run it within a VMWare session, but you have to install the WinPCAP library first.
