4.81 beta2 white background

  1. 2008-04-09 01:19:09 UTC
I installed the 4.81 beta 2 and now i have a white background and when ever you try to select something it reboots.

When you ran the setup.exe program, did you make sure to point to the BTV directory correctly? It copies all the images that it needs from the BTV directory and then adds the images it has in the "images" directory from the zip. It assumes you are doing english. Are you doing some other language? Did previous versions work?

    The previous version worked fine.
I ran the install and pointed to the Beyond TV directory. Both Beyond TV and MVP Media are installed to their default directory.
I looked in the MVP Media images directory and everything looks like it is there.
I am running the english version.
I am using Hauppauge firmware/driver version 34_25345. I have been using it since it came out.

I reciently uninstalled all of MVP media and reinstalled because everytime i would select an option like recordings or try to change to another option the mvp would reboot and give my Win XP SP2 machine an mvp error. (this started when I upgraded to the 4.81beta version of the MediaMVP BTV4 Interface) It still does that...

    That error is:

MediaMVP GUI Server has encountered a problem and needs to close.

    Error signature
    szAppName : MVPMedia.exe szAppVer : 3.4.0.2519 szModName : MVPMedia.dll
    szModVer : 2.5.24023.0 offset : 0000a1f0

    Thank you for your help.

First let me apologize for asking so many questions because I really want to get to the bottom of this. I suspect it has to do with the Hauppauge firmware version. I know they changed somne stuff with version 3.4.

Is there any chance you can uninstall version 3.4.25345 and install a 3.2 version like Hauppauge 3.2.24125? It should be straight forward to change versions. Then after installing the 3.2 firmware, re-install the BTV skin by running the setup program again.

If that old firmware works but you want the new firmware, you could copy just the html files from the Beta 2 install or something like that. Also, maybe we can setup a time where we can go online together (via instant message) and we could try to nail this down in real time instead of by message board. Like I said, I want to figure this one out. Some other people have seen this error. Not everyone has seen this so I suspect it is specific to a particular installation.

I have not been able to find a 3.2 version
  6. 2008-04-09 17:06:30 UTC
I did roll back to the 33_25032 and now I can see the background but it still reboots.

You can get the known-good 3.2 at http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/mediamvp/mediamvpsetup_3.2.24125b.exe

I ended up rolling back to that and I'm fully operational now (well, other than the bits we know aren't done yet). At some point when the dust settles I may look at upgrading until I find the last firmware version that works with this, but so far it looks like 3.4 does not for sure.

The constant-reboot thing you're seeing is a mismatch between the MediaMVP DLLs installed with the firmware, and the ones re-registered with the mvpbtv install, so I think downgrading to 3.2 will do the trick.

    Brad.

Thanks Brad for that insight. Looks like firmware version is a bigger deal than I thought. I will see if I can make a special MVPBTV version that is compatible with the newer Hauppauge 3.3 and 3.4 firmware. That will be lower priority however.

According to one post on this thread at shspvr.com:

    http://www.shspvr.com/smf/index.php?topic=11395.0

Version 3.4.25345 appears to solve the rebooting rather than powering off problem that I and a few others have had, so I'd be most interested in getting that one specific version going. I believe it is also the latest, so if you're going to spend anytime with any other version, please try this one.

Just to see what would happen, I tried 3.4.25345 myself and ran the /visible option on my computer, since I've found that to often give more informative error messages. The error I got was on Line 57 of RecordedShows.html (which is the first call to service.useService) with "Object doesn't support this property or method". I don't know what Hauppauge did that would cause that, or if we can get around it, but I thought I'd offer up the data in case it gives someone any ideas.

I downloaded mediamvpsetup_3.2.24125b.exe and installed then installed MediaMVP BTV4 beta2 and now it works great.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

I know how to fix this problem but it will take me some time to do it. I'll create a version that is compatible with Firmware version 3.4 soon.
