It worked!!! I did what you told me.
1) I downloaded the file about which the install program complained. In my case "miktex-dict-english.tar.lzma"
2) I started the installation process and before the install program got to that file, I copied the file to its destination directory: "C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.8-2\tpm\packages".

Hi all,
I too have a similar problem to the one outlined above. When trying to install MikTex 2.8 (from both net and basic installer) I get the following message:

When yap tries to display an eps file whose path name has any long (sub)directory name in the path,
Yap gives the message
MiKTeX Problem Report
Message: The page could not be rendered.
I do know that file names more than twenty six characters (which to me is not that long)
have this problem.
Note: Regular tex files with long file names do not have this problem if they do not have...

To run a trace:
Get debugview,zip (http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/sysinternals/bb896647(en-us).aspx), unpack it somewhere and start dbgview.exe. As far as I remember you must start it with admin right so if you are in a restricted account use the right mouse and "run as ...".
Then open a command line window and type
set MIKTEX_TRACE=access,curl, ...whatever you want, (see miktex help...

The bugfixing of MiKTeX 2.7 ends on 2009-12-31.

I had the same problem. My directory names were only 27 characters max.
I copied the whole directory to move it to a area with short directory names, and sure enough, yap now displayed the eps file.
My bug request was rejected due to not enough info (I dont no how to set debug variable miktex_trace so I can't run and submit the info requested.
Has anyone been successful at submitting...

tfrangakis, what you suggested worked fine. Before I had a really long directory name, something like "filtering comparison version two point zero five", and I changed it to "FCV2p05" and Yap would then show my .eps images fine.
