WavePacket is a program package for numerical simulation of quantum-mechanical wavepacket dynamics for distinguishable particles. It can be used to solve one or more (i.e. coupled channels) time-independent or time-dependent (linear) Schrödinger and Liouville-von Neumann-equations. Optionally accounting for the interaction with external electric fields within the semiclassical dipole approximation, WavePacket can simulate modern experiments using ultrashort light pulses in photo-induced physics or chemistry. The extended graphical capabilities allow visualization of wavepacket dynamics 'on the fly', including Wigner transforms to phase space. WavePacket is especially suitable for teaching of quantum mechanics as well as for research projects in physics, chemistry, see also http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1-0XnOHS0cE1H2pjvOsSBA
First established in 2004, the present Matlab version is in a stable, mature state. Further development mainly by Burkhard Schmidt at Free University Berlin
- Quantum-mechanical wavepacket dynamics
- Control by external fields (semiclassical)
- Dimension reduction by balanced truncation
- Choice of numerical (PDE and ODE) solvers
- Animated graphics created "on the fly"
- Latest version 5.1.0 released on 27-May-2015
- Comes with extensive Wiki documentation
Versatile simulation program for relatively simple quantum mechanical simulations. Easy to approach, even if your experience with MatLab is very limited. The wiki User Guide and Reference Guide are very nice to lean on when getting acquainted with the program. The demos are very useful to understand the inner workings of the program. I would highly recommend it.
