Manjaro 0.8.1

The Manjaro Development Team is proud to announce another public release of Manjaro Linux.

Manjaro Linux targets beginners and advanced users at the same time. We provide UI-tools and scripts to make your life much more easier.

Manjaro supports Nvidia's Optimus Technology out of the box. You can choose between nouveau/intel or nvidia/intel drivers combination.Manjaro hardware detection tool will configure your graphic-cards automatically and with help of bumblebee/bbswitch it is possible to switch to your desired graphic mode.

We ship Manjaro Linux in several different flavours. There will be our standard XFCE desktop and Gnome or KDE to choose from. All our images are created by manjaroiso, a fork of archiso/chakraiso. With manjaroiso you can create a set of install medias each with a different DE on top. All versions have the same base and drivers stack. Manjaro NET edition is our minimal base system. With it you get a minimal system with needed tools running, you can install your own packages on top of it. Useful for creating servers or learning how Manjaro works.

Boxit 2.0 introduces testing-repos and manages our packages in a pool-format. This way all our packages get saved into one folder and symlinked to our repositories. We can simple move packages from one repo to another without spending much time on syncing our mirrors. Boxit being git-like our developers and maintainers don't have to store our huge repository on their computers since they get managed by our root-server.

Guillaume and Philip worked on our core packages to get Manjaro smoother as ever before. We switched to linux35 kernel-series and will drop linux32 kernel-series soon. Plymouth got reworked and LXDM replaced Lightdm in our XFCE edition.

How do we get our Codenames:

Manjaro 0.8 is tagged as "Ascella" which is a star system in the Star Trek Universe. It is also known as Sagittarius system. The primary star is known as Ascella. In this system there are 5 stars with Sagittarius IV - the home world of the Sagitta, a humanoid, warpable species which is a foderation member since the 24th century.

Followed features we offer with this release:

  • XFCE 4.10
  • KDE 4.8.4 (4.9.1 optional from our testing repos)
  • Gnome 3.4.2 (3.4.3 optional from our testing repos)
  • Cinnamon 1.5.2
  • Language support for english, french and german (optional languages installable from our repositories)
  • minimal XFCE CD image you can build your desktop on
  • a nice KDE DVD image with selected applications
  • a nice Cinnamon/Gnome DVD image with selected applications

Please test all our flavours and report back your findings.

A good start is to read our Blog. To create reliable installation media, use K3B or Nero. Manjaro ISO's do not support unetbootin, and CD/DVD's need a burn speed no higher then 4x.

How to apply xdelta patches:

  • First install xdelta3 with pacman: "pacman -Sy xdelta3"
