  • Development stopped

Well, frankly, I lost the motivation to continue this project. There will be no version 0.2, unless someone would be willing to help me. I like the idea of this, I like how it turned out, and I would love to continue it on, but I need someone to handle the things that I can't do - such as art, and interface design. If anyone wants to help me with the project, let me know and I will resume development. Otherwise, it is at its completed form right now. I must say, it's not too bad as it is right now, but the code needs to be cleaned up, the server messages need to be optimized, and it needs a better interface. I'm sorry to anyone who was looking forward to an update (any one of the few people that actually looked at and downloaded this project).

  • Magbor v0.2, coming soon!

Despite the decreasing activity percentile and the lack of updates, I am still working on Magbor! It is on its way to a fresh codebase, and a newer interface, and it will certainly include more features. I understand that there are bugs in the current version, and those will be sorted out as well. Nevertheless, I admit I did go through a period of a few months in which I did nothing, but I have now begun work on Magbor again. I can assure you, a new release of Magbor will be ready in a month or two! I have already been surprised at the amount of downloads that Magbor has received, although I suspect many of them are automated. But, despite the downloads, there have been no bug reports, no feedback, no forum posts - NOTHING! Who are you downloaders? Are you just grabbing the code and running? Well, come talk to me, and tell me what you think! I would love to have feedback, so that I can improve the game to suit your tastes! You can post in the project forums, or add topics to any section of the tracker. I am still looking for someone who would like to do art, including world tiles, characters, items, and interface graphics. I will do my best to include easy-to-use tools in the new version of Magbor that will make changing all aspects of the game easier than ever, so that even people with no knowledge of HTML and JavaScript will be able to create their own little worlds and change the look of almost anything. Tools are not at the top of my list, but I believe they would certainly be a valuable addition to the game. Finally, for all who are wondering, the new version of Magbor will also be more efficient. This is very important to me, because I am just as worried as you are about the bandwidth costs of a project like this, and I do realize the current version of Magbor tends to eat a large amount of bandwidth, with its update loop polling the server every second. I don't think it is safe to expect hundreds of people on at the same time, at least not until bandwidth gets cheaper and the internet communications get faster, but I would like to be able to handle at least 15-20 people on an average server and bandwidth, and I really don't think the current codebase can handle that kind of load. Fortunately, I am coming up with little tricks that should reduce bandwidth usage. You will just have to wait 'til the release to see what I'm up to! :) I look forward to releasing Magbor 0.2 in the near future, and I hope to hear from some of you - the users! ~Ricky28269

  • Magbor version 0.1 released

The first version of Magbor has been released to the public. It is available to download as a zip file, complete with installation instructions, at http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/magbor/Magbor_0_1.zip?download This first release contains the following features: -Character customization - players can choose the colors of their character. -Realtime gameplay - see everyone's actions instantly! -Smooth walking animations - just use the arrow keys to move your character. -Chat system - talk to everyone on the map, and hear everyone else. -Items - pick up and drop items throughout the map. The next release will be much more exciting and feature-packed, now that the foundation has been created. See the TODO.txt file for an idea of the features coming soon! Also, we are looking for an artist that can create a world (tile images and the map files that connect them), character animation images, item images, and possibly a GUI. If you would like to help with this, please let me know! -Ricky28269
