  • Followup: RE: Cannot get logwatch to work via a cron job

I did change mailer = "sendmail -t" to mailer = /usr/sbin/sendmail in /usr/share/logwatch/default.conf/logwatch.conf. Everytime I tried to run logwatch from the command-line I got the following error: Recipient names must be specified I did not even try to run logwatch from a cron job. Once I changed the file back to having mailer = "sendmail -t" I was able to run...

  • Followup: RE: Cannot get logwatch to work via a cron job

Hi bjorn1, Thanks for the reply. I left the following line in /usr/share/logwatch/default.conf/logwatch.conf: "MailTo = newEmail@address.com". I then added the following line in /etc/logwatch/conf/logwatch.conf: "MailTo = newEmail@address.com". Still, when I try to run logwatch from the cron job, it does not send and when I do a tail -f on maillog it shows that it is...

  • Followup: RE: Cannot get logwatch to work via a cron job

To answer your last question, the other place to look is in the /usr/share/logwatch/dist.conf/ and /etc/logwatch/conf/ directories, particularly the logwatch.conf file, as it overrides the default settings. (And also the override.conf, in the unusual case you have that.) As for the sendmail error message, look for the declaration for the "mailer" variable in the above files, as...

  • Cannot get logwatch to work via a cron job

Hi, The logwatch on one of our servers stopped sending us our daily emails a few weeks ago. This server is running 32-bit Red Hat 5.9 and has Logwatch 7.3 (released 03/24/06) installed on it. I looked into why we don't receive the emails from logwatch any more and changed the email address that the output was being sent to in /usr/share/logwatch/default.conf/logwatch.conf. I then issued...

  • Issue Using Logwatch with JBoss

I installed the latest version of Logwatch and everything works fine. I created a custom watch for JBoss logs but Logwatch cannot access log files located within the JBoss home directory. If I copy the JBoss logs to a different directory outside of the JBoss directory then Logwatch can access the Jboss logs. Has anyone solved this problem? Logwatch works fine with Tomcat logs, just not...
