Description
LightDOS is essentially the DOS equivalent of Ubuntu linux. LightOS comes built-in with the oZone desktop environment, mouse drivers, long file name support, improved commands, and more.
oZone:
The ‘killer feature’ of LightDOS is oZone GUI 0.5.3.0, a desktop environment created by Lukas Lipka. It replaces the command line interface in LightDOS. The command line can only be accessed with the Console application. LightDOS is porting the Faenza icon set to oZone, and creating a custom theme, so LightDOS users can use a beautiful desktop outside of more used operating systems.
Developing for LightDOS:
Just like any platform, you can create applications for LightDOS using numerous programming languages.
Windows programs in LightDOS:
If you install the HX DOS Extender, you can run most Windows console programs inside LightDOS.
The command line:
LightDOS allows you to launch the command line inside the desktop, giving you unrestricted access to the FreeDOS innards.

Features
- Uses the FreeDOS kernel, so it can run nearly every program made for DOS (100,00+ programs). Examples include Microsoft Word, DOOM, Quake, Oregon Trail, and Wolfenstein 3D.
- Includes many utilities and drivers that other DOS-like operating systems don’t include. Things like a desktop, improved command line, silent boot.
- If you install the HX DOS Extender, you can run most Windows console programs inside LightDOS, including 7-Zip, DOSBox, QEMU, and more.
- The DJGGP Development Environment lets you create (or port existing) C++ applications for LightDOS. Many current programming languages are compatible with LightDOS.
- LightDOS can be booted from a USB drive or CD, so it’s perfect for recovery and you can access files on your hard drive with the File Manager. Most PC companies provide BIOS updates as a DOS executable, which LightDOS is capable of running.
- Standard release for most users, and Pro release for experienced DOS users.
