Launchy 2.0 Alpha Testers!

  1. 2007-09-15 23:27:13 UTC
Okay everyone.. I'm sorry for the long wait, but it's nearly time now. Tomorrow afternoon, come hell or high water, I'm going to release the Launchy 2.0 Alpha. And I need your help! This will be the first QT version of Launchy. It's really coming together nicely now and has tons of new features and fixes but it will have new bugs. I need some volunteers to run the Alpha software and report bugs and any large grievances. I've opened up a new topic on the forums, "Launchy 2.0 Alpha Testing". That's where all of the bug bashing fun will be had.

More information will be posted here and in the alpha forums tomorrow.

    Thanks all!

    Josh

You can download Launchy 1.98 (2.0 Alpha) right here:
    http://cs.unm.edu/~karlinjf/LaunchySetup198.exe

If you're unsure about trusting the site, go to http://www.launchy.net and notice that the link for my name points to http://cs.unm.edu/~karlinjf/

This is the first test release of the new QT Launchy. There are a number of significant improvements and hopefully very few bugs. Please report any major grievances or bugs that you find here to the alpha test section of the forums.

    Thanks!

    Josh

So far I'm aware of one bug: Multiple-word searches on wikipedia don't encode correctly.

    Here is the change log:

    1.98 (2.0 Alpha)

    • Launchy has been completely rewritten, it is now all in QT (was in MFC)

    • Options glued together into one cohesive dialog

    • Skin selection now shows previews of skins

    • No longer have to restart Launchy to use a new plugin or skin

    • Plugin options are integrated into the options dialog

    • Launchy can automatically hide when it loses focus

    • Launchy can now shallow scan a directory (customizable depth)

    • Much better plugin customization

    Bug fixes

    • Unfortunately there are too many to list!

The gcal plugin is not working. :(

I have set two additional folders for Launchy to catalog: My Documents and another folder containing hundreds of mp3 files. I have set the file types for each folder, but Launchy does not add any of the files to the catalog. What's up?

thaiDeviant: Try using *.type instead of .type

csabosz: Unfortunately all of the plugins will have to be rewritten.

"You have to be logged in as an administrator when installing this program."

What a disappointment for folks like me who are stuck without local admin rights at work. Any chance that will change in the future, or will I be stuck on 1.25 forever?

Why is it no longer possible to use any key as the hotkey to bring it up?
I'm so used to Win+W, from years of using different launchers (Wingo, PS Hot Launch and now Launchy) that I can't/don't want to change.
Please, bring it back... We're not all alt+space people.
  9. 2007-09-22 14:17:07 UTC
The hotkey sequence I use (Win+Enter) is also no longer working.
  10. 2007-09-22 14:49:53 UTC
neither alt+f2, well it must be a general problem, then
  11. 2007-09-22 14:53:12 UTC
    btw, I love launchy! :P
  12. 2007-09-22 16:00:42 UTC
Okay, I'll look into getting more hotkeys working. :)

Aaron: Just install Launchy on a machine in which you do have admin rights, then copy the Launchy folder over to your other computer.

    Any linux support yet?
  14. 2007-09-22 19:33:44 UTC
I changed mine to ctrl+space, and it's working fine for me.

Would be nice to ctrl+tab through the four options tabs though.
  15. 2007-09-22 19:46:14 UTC
The option dialog doesn't resize properly. Seems like you did not assign a layout to the window itself.
  16. 2007-09-22 19:49:11 UTC
There is no about dialog, so I cannot see the version number. Also, the option to rebuild the index manually is gone.
  17. 2007-09-22 22:16:13 UTC
I take the very last one back, I just expected it at the old place. For others with the same problem: it's under Options/Catalog/Rescan Catalog.

Josh: Thanks for the tip! (I wonder how many other un-installable software packages would work that way... hmmm...)
  19. 2007-09-23 16:06:49 UTC
Linux support is already on the way? I really can't wait to have this little gemstone installed.

By the way.. this discussion should really be happening in the Alpha 2.0 forums. A new release was just made that fixes a lot of the problems discussed here. Details can be found in the forums: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=451017

Hey Josh, is there any way that you could incorporate Firefox Portable support in Launchy? Something like opening the search results in an already open web browser, and not a new window.

    Launchy Rocks!

I want Explory, gimme new rewritten Explory! ^^

After moving to a new laptop (Compaq 6910p), either the old version (1.2.5) or this alpha version goes into crash after few minutes.

I caught the following error log by the alpha debug version:

    Opening file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\accelerometercp.CPL"
    1. Opening library

Whenever it crashes, the log stops here.

    Any idea?
