I don't use subvert in single player (anymore), since it doesn't give XP from converted monster. But if you are not playing for the high score it can be fun. In multiplayer games I have found subversion very reliable. Far more reliable than for example magic attack. And its cheaper to use too!

I didn't use any cheating except at the very end I saved and walked to the portal with and without potion cheat. Then I continued to next level with potion cheated wizard, so could say that those scores after level 2 are all cheated. However I don't think it really impacted the game.

In single player games fighter-wizard approach is very easy to pull off. Lets say wizard has 40 action points (AP), 20 combat, 20 defense. Speed potion doubles APs and triples stamina recovery, potions give 20 to combat and defense. Magic sword and shield give 20 to combat, 34 to defense. So boosted wizard has at level 1 80AP, 60 combat, 74 defense. He of course rides. Mount that has had speed potion has about 100AP and you can change mounts during the turn, if you need more. So you have about 180AP to use with 60/74 monster. Wizard can also carry a couple of healing vials for stamina and for random damage. Plus fighter-wizard has a load of mana (since he doesn't need expensive monsters) to use for utility spells. For comparison demon has 30AP, 38 combat, 31 defense. So 6 demons have 180AP to use for 38/31 monsters... a lot less effective than 1st level fighter-wizard. It is in fact a bit too easy strategy for single player - and it gives you double experience points. Also BTW most monsters will not try to hurt your wizard - They flee as fast as they can (since they see how strong he is). So there is perhaps even slighter chance that you get toasted by random monster.

So the main worry for me in single player game is that some enemy or neutral monsters are not killed by your wizard (everything else is just too easy). So use loads of bats to distract enemy and neutrals fighting each other (now I would use Giant Bat 6 in level 1). Remember to use all bats AP so they won't fight back. It is really funny when Torquemada sends 10 monsters and fire spell after a single bat.

Teleport is very useful in single player. In level 2 it can save a loads of door keys (If you use invisibility potion demon won't attack you after teleport ... just avoiding accidents).

Magic attack is a good way to get rid of Pixies. If you know general area where enemy pixies are, walk one of your own pixies there. Then target it with Magic Attack and boom... all the pixies in the area are toasted.

BTW the reason I wrote this strategy thing is that almost all strategy discussion I have seen about this game is in "undead level" http://www.halifaxwallace.freeserve.co.uk/ - for example. I also played the first time in 90's the 3 levels I then had with undead strategy. However now I consider it a rookie strategy. It is very ineffective in single player campaign and in especially in multiplayer games.
