KIPI (KDE Image Plugin Interface) is an effort to develop a common plugin structure for digiKam (http://www.digikam.org), Gwenview, KimDaBa, and ShowImg. Of course, other applications are welcomed to implement KIPI support.

What's not to like? Cross platform. Easy to use. Provide functionality from as simple as uploading to Flickr to full Liquid Rescale. Awesome.
