I've had some trouble with jpam1.1 and reverted back to jpam0.5. But when I installed 0.5 I added to $JAVA_HOME/lib/ext:
    commons-logging-1.1.jar
    commons-logging-adapters-1.1.jar
    commons-logging-api-1.1.jar
    jpam-0.5.jar

    I then added added libjpam.so to $JAVA_HOME/lib/i386/client/

    after that I added net-sf-jpam to /etc/pam.d

and finally and in my home directory where I run my test jars I also have .java.login.config, I haven't done any changes to the .java.login.config and net-sf-jpam files. With this setup I managed to make a simple authentication of username and password. But I haven't been able to retrieve any principals like gID, uID and so on.

    /Peter
