That's kinda what I was thinking about earlier. ALSO: It turns out that we don't need to write an OSCAR library... someone already GPLd one.
It's called "Daim" - https://daim.dev.java.net/
I think I can write an interface to sit on top of it.

Last night I re-organized the codebase - basically into 3 main tiers - one is the TOC2 stuff, one the joscar lib stuff (which you'll notice is in a net.kano package) and the JAIM fluff (UI & soon the abstract API). There's an ant build file that will clean, compile and jar stuff into the appropriate jars, but there's no run target yet. I've also started work on some of the UI.

What we might want to consider doing is creating an abstract comm interface that we can plug in any protocol to - Oscar, TOC2, even other IM services - if we architect it right, this could have the potential to run transparently on top of any protocol implementation.
