Auto-Removing Fields from Final Bibtex-File

    Hi there,

I wonder if (and how) it is possible to remove non-standard fields from my final Bibtex-File.

Background: I want to add additional info such as URLs/DOIs/PDFs/abstracts etc to my global database but want to have these things removed from the bibtex file that I create with "Extract bibtex-entries from aux file". The reason is that I don't want to submit all the additional information to editors of journals I'm publishing in. Furtermore, I don't want these informations to show up in my "References" in the final paper.

Is there a handy way to get a "clean" database?

Thanks a lot for your help
    Cheers
    Ben

This can be done using the "Set/clear fields" function, under the Tools menu. You need to specify a set of fields, separated by semicolon, e.g. url;doi;pdf;file;abstract, and select "Clear fields".

    That was easy :)
Thanks a lot for the very quick response!

Even though it is a long time ago since the last entry to this thread, I'd like to add a suggestion. Instead of clearing the url field and save the file two times (one that you are working with within JabRef and the other for the publications) add a new field in Options->'Set up general fields' and add e.g. url_jabref to the 'General' line. Now go to the Tools->'Set/Clear/Rename Fields' and rename url to url_jabref. Then I linked the bib file I actually used for in my latex files to the one JabRef uses. Now there is no url in the bibliography of the article but the url to the article is still in your database.

Hello, even though it is now a VERY long time since the last entry on this thread, I just wanted to say thank you so so much-this was excellent advice and has just solved a long period of thesis grief!
