Using Windows 7 64Bit version with Java 6u16 (also 64 Bit), the "Open file" dialog does not work properly (see attached screenshot). This problem occurs with JabRef 2.5 as well as with 2.6b2.

I don't know if it's a bug in JabRef. I suspect that perhaps you may need to tweak your language configurations.
I use SCIM for inputting chinese characters into several other applications, and I can copy them into JabRef (Paste from clipboard) and they are displayed correctly by JabRef(for example, as a test article record; I did not test the menu), so it appears that JabRef can handle...

Thanks, it really helps.
However, there is still one more question.
If I choose my native language (Chinese), the
fonts will appear as squares. I searched on the
web and it seems that this is a bug in JabRef?.

Try, under options>Preferences>Appearance
there's a box marked General/ Menu and font label size that is greyed out. Click on override default settings and then enter the desired font size in the box.
This worked in my Linux box (running AntiX; a Debian derivative).
I hope it helps.

Pedro.

Is there anything specific in JabRef that you think is *not* biblatex-ready?.

Thanks a lot for the very quick reply. The plugin works just as expected.

By the way, I personally find it much more convenient to use RefTeX in Emacs to insert the references. That way I don't have to switch to a different window to do it.

I have asked the JabRef developers about this previously. Morten Alver provided a nice plugin for using emacsclient in stead of gnuclient, here: http://jabref.sourceforge.net/resources.php (look for 'Push to Emacsclient').

Testing version 2.6.beta2 under Mac OSX Push selection to Emacs is not working, as it looks for gnu-server running. Has anyone investigated the use of 'emacsclient' instead of 'gnuclient'? As I am using Aquamacs, I am not sure whether installing gnu-server/gnuclient is possible.

I think it could be useful for JabRef to have the option to read string definitions from a file A, and use these in the expansion of strings in file B. This could be based on preferences, with a similar interface to the abbreviations options, or based on currently open databases.
thanks!
