i could run vnc but do not know what the text field was for,and how to use it the connection and the time taken for the images to come on the screen was very long .if u could add some lines as the read me along with the documentation on how to use your software,it would be great.

woohoo, someone other than me can use it :)

I don't suppose you could tell me which phone you are using.

It is going to be slow, this is due to speed of mobile networks. I've done what I can to speed it up (as for as small as amount as possable), but later (when it is working well on more phones) I'd like to implement TinyVNC, which should speed it up some more.

A quick How-To for you, I'm going to write better user-documentation, but as it is currently in early beta I've not yet seen the need too.

When it starts you should have a screen with two text fields on, and the following commands (most will
    be accessable via a menu)
    Connect: Connect to the server
Add: Add the current details (host & password) to the quick-access menu (warning: saved as plain text in your phone!)
Manage: Delete items in your quick-menu.

The host and password should be faily obvous, a host name, and the password to access the host.

You then get the "Conntecting" screen, after this you are presented with a small section of the screen of the server, and have the following commands

    Exit: Exits the application
    Refresh: Refreshes the current screen.
Call Mouse: Centers the mouse on the currently vistable section.
Enter Text: Creates a text box to enter text in your phones default method (123abc normaly)
Toggle Control: holds the control key up or down
Toggle Alt: holds Alt the key up or down
Toggle Meta: holds the meta key up or down
    Mode: Lets you select the
view mode, either Normal (the default) or "Full Screen" were it shrinks the servers screen to fit the device.
    and Entry Mode:
Navigation: The Curser keys move the screen, and the number keys act as number keys (press 1, one is sent)
Mouse Mode: The Curser keys move the Mouse Pointer, and the number keys act as number keys (press 1, one is sent)
SMS Mode: The Curser keys move the screen, and the number keys act kind-of like SMS entry keys ( 1 onces gives 1, seconds time A, then B then C, etc).
    Options:
You have three options, how fast you wish to scroll left/right or up/down, and the "Active Refresh", which will refresh the screen every 3 seconds.

I have an even simpler question: how do I obtain and install a J2ME virtual machine?

I have both a Jornada 565 and a Kyocera SmartPhone running PalmOS 3.5. I've looked for J2ME VMs for both platforms on Sun's Java site, but I haven't found either one.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

While this version should run on Suns J2ME VM (in the Early Access section of Java.sun.com, http://java.sun.com/products/midp4palm/download.html ). You can get native Palm based VNC clients, which would be faster.

A native Windows CE (http://www.cs.utah.edu/~midgley/wince/vnc.html) and Palm (http://palmvnc2.free.fr/) VNC client is your best bet here. Better performance, and it'll be designed for your platform, not a cell phone.

Hi there - i have tested this on the Nokia 6230. Works very well with EDGE (Enhanced GPRS) but the mouse cursor doesnt work, so is real nice for viewing an external server, and rebooting it :) But as to doing anything - the mouse pointer always stays in the bottom right of the screen.

It's a sh*t load better than the SPV version of VNC :) Keep up the good work fella,

    Cheers,

I hope my new version (out soon(tm)) will fix the bugs with the mouse pointer (and others small bugs).

how Do I double click with the mouse button ?

whats the point of a mouse pointer if theres nothing to point/click on ?

    Or ?

Use the "Call Mouse" command to put the mouse in the center of the current screen
    Switch to "Mouse Mode"
The arrow keys will move the mouse, Fire will press once, and "Game A" will double click. (Go to "About", then the "Buttons" form will give an overview of each of the buttons for your platform).

I installed the early-May version on a Nokia 6800 and it connects -- I set my ~/.vnc/startup to run xterm with a 7pt font and limit the window to the display size to 200x200 since mostly all I need is a terminal window (anyone know of any J2ME ssh that will work with Nokia?)

    vncserver -geometry 200x200 :2

The good news is that I connect and I see a beautiful xterm window, the bad news is that I can't seem to enter any text -- I tried "ls" in SMS mode, and after a restart there is now an "l" in that terminal, so it did send something :) but it appears to hang -- I can shift to nav mod and move the window over (6800 is 128x128) but it doesn't repaint.

Tried the download of the new version using the phone's applications menu, but I get "invalid file" ... could be the old app is giving the wrong address for the update?

Anyway, I'm encouraged -- I've been waiting hundreds of years for this -- but I'm not there yet. What do I need to be able to compile from source? Just java? Or do I need any special libs from Nokia?

Curious -- I downloaded 3.0.4 from sf.net to my own server, it installed OK, but now it won't connect at all, "Java IOException occured whilest opening connection"

    >(anyone know of any J2ME ssh that will work with Nokia?)

    http://www.idokorro.com - Commercial ($45) SSH1/2 client for Nokia 6800/6810/6820

http://phoenix.inf.upol.cz/~polakr/ - Free SSH1 client for most phones with socket support, including Nokia 6800. SSH2 support is coming, but not soon due to one of his other projects with higher priority.

Just wanted to check in -- installed this on the Sanyo 8100 (Sprint PCS) and it seems to be working perfectly. Much better than any of the others that I've tried. Excellent!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the great work!

I can't get mine to connect. It keeps saying either

    a) Unknown problem. java.lang.securityException: Access is denied.

    b) Unable to connect. The requested protocol does not exist ?H=..........:5900

    I'm using a Motorola V300.

Where's the .jar file? all that I see in your .zip is a jad file. BTW i'm using a sanyo 8200 and the only way I know of how to get apps on my phone is by uploading jar files to it.
  19. 2004-09-20 14:06:26 UTC
^^ that was me, I figured it out. But the app will randomly return an error: Server sent unknown command:255 and then freeze I have no idea why... other than that it works great.

Hi. the BBs use <SPACE> as fire, but my imp does not like game keys which are also normal keys. I shall fix this at some time, but I'm lazy.

    You can add a Macro...

Alas, I've no idea. Some people have used it with BlueTooth, but I've no idea how...

    hello

i'm interested in your project, but I've got a simple question:
What is your program exactly for?
What can you do with it and why did you developed it?
    Thanks for your answer
