I managed to get the build system to build the basic image by chrooting the gutsy distribution (7.10). It's an ugly solution but it works. I added a page to the user wiki describing how to do this.

I think this may be due to using a newer version of GCC than is intended for compilation. I have version 4.4.1 installed with Ubuntu. Which version should I have for use with the gumstix openembedded?.

On Ubuntu 9.10, following the instructions provided at "http://www.gumstix.net/Setup-and-Programming/view/Getting-started/Setting-up-a-build-environment/111.html" building a basic image fails. I will attempt to include the relevant details from the output.
Failure occurs during "Running task 104 of 1391 (ID: 314, /home/.../packages/binutils/binutils-cross_2.18.bb, do_compile)"
The error says...

This page is no longer valid. The 70-pin connectors on each Overo COM are J1 and J4. Pinouts for these connectors are defined here:

The 40-pin header SV1 is common to several Gumstix Overo expansion boards: Summit, Tobi, Palo, Chestnut boards.
Documentation at www.gumstix.net has been updated to correct any mistakes, as identified here.
