MP3 Problems

  1. 2004-05-07 01:12:56 UTC
Any suggestions for this error message? It only seems to happen with MP3s that I've encoded w/ Lame ... dunno ... I've tried the turning-off-all-the-filters thing, still doesn't work. Any help appreciated.

Does it work with another player ?
Can u try a tool like "GSpot" to check what's the codec u need and if u have it ?
  3. 2004-05-14 00:30:46 UTC
works fine with Windows Media Player ... don't have GSpot, where can I download it?
  4. 2004-05-14 00:35:56 UTC
nevermind ... got GSpot, and all it says is

    "MPEG-1 Layer 3 VBR 44100 Hz"

the MP3s also work fine using WinAmp. Looks like this program is the only one having a problem.

    any suggestions?

well, if this problem cannot be fixed, I guess I'll have to find another player. I'm surprised that this is the only player I've come across that cannot handle vbr mp3s. especially since it's a great player in every other respect. oh well.

media player classic is awesome in other formats like mpeg, avi (divx) and other video files. i think it's best to use winamp (recommended after 5 yrs of testing =) or other mp3-wav-ogg playing software that is made for playing music.

The most likely cause of this problem are the ID3 tags in the MP3 files. Some very specific types of ID3 tags cannot be properly read by the default Directshow MP3 file parser filter. It's a problem in Microsofts code. Since MPC uses the default Directshow filter for reading MP3 files MPC is also affected by this.

The only two real solutions would be that either MS fixes the problem, or that Gabest writes his own Directshow MP3 file parser filter.

A workaround would be to open the MP3 files in a Tagger application and change the type of the ID3 tags.
