I find it hard to read the conversation as it is now.
What about a frame based layout, where the message window has a scrollbar

change your $HTTP_SESSION_VARS to $_SESSION and it will work.

all characters typed fater the ampersand symbol (&)
never show up.
typing the following
"this is a cool & nice thing"
shows only
"this is a cool "
in the chat window.
same thing for the plus symbol (+)
